Car hire in Sao Tome and Principe does not come cheap. Expect rates of between Eur50-120 a day rental. This cost varies with the type of vehicle and also excludes cost of fuel which is the responsibility of the client. Most rental vehicles are provided with a driver.
Due to the bad conditions of some of the roads in Sao Tome and Principe it is advisable to hire a jeep if possible… especially if you want to get to some of those exclusive places and beautiful beaches!
Taxis
If you are on a budget, you can try chartering taxis for the day but be sure to chosse by recommendation. However, with this alternative you're unlikely to get a 4 wheel drive vehicle which you will need to go out most beaches or out of the city. You can also talk to you hotel about vehicle hire.
Boats
Sao Tome and Principe is along the West Coast of Central Africa and has some of the most beautiful beaches in the region. Getting to some of the mysterious and exclusive places such as Cabras Islets, Santana Islets, San Miguel or sail around the island would require a boat. You could also use a boat to get from one beach to the other. Of course various types of boats are available from speed boat to canoes, for the more adventurous.
